How to Upgrade Ramen
As college students, we consume instant ramen on the regular. It’s cheap and easy to make, but after a while, it can get repetitive and boring. Here a few tips and tricks to elevate your ramen from basic to brilliant.
Tips:
- Add some chicken stock (or any other kind of stock) to the water. This helps add flavor to the broth and to the noodles.
- After you add the flavor packet, also add some of your own spices. I really like to add garlic powder and onion powder, it adds more depth to the broth and cuts the saltiness of it.
- You can also add sesame oil to the broth but do so sparingly because sesame oil is a very strong flavor.
- Add fresh vegetables like chopped scallion/green onion, spinach, or dried seaweed for added color and texture.
- If you like spicy food add Sriracha or any of your other favorite hot sauces.
- Add a hard-boiled egg, and if you have time you can marinate the egg in a mixture of soy sauce and mirin (that’s why the eggs in ramen are brown).
- You can also just eat the noodles without the broth. One recipe I like is to take cooked ramen noodles, add in the flavor packet along with butter and sriracha. They are super creamy and delicious
I hope these tips help upgrade your ramen. Keep on cooking!
