Do you have a hankering for warm, flavorful soup full of umami? Are you tired of the selection available on campus food? Are you a silly goose? Should you stop reading my blog? Did you really think that I was done with the rhetorical questions? If you answered yes to any of these you should go to Pho Vietnamese and read all of my other blogs.
This restaurant was my first experience ever eating Pho, and holds a special place in my heart; however, if you look at reviews of Pho Vietnamese online you might get a very different impression. Many people have given the restaurant bad reviews for bad customer service, a fee for using a card and non-authentic cuisine, but I have yet to see this firsthand. Although there is a fee for using a card, I simply avoid this by using cash whenever I go to grab some Pho.
When I go to Pho Vietnamese I typically order a P6, which contains rare beef and brisket along with the broth and veggies. The order also comes with a garnish of bean sprouts, jalapenos, and lime, giving you more freedom to experiment with the flavor. There are also noodle bowls along with various appetizers available for newcomers.
The restaurant embraces the fact that is is a mom-and-pop shop and does not pretend to be anything that it is not. The tables are comfortable and the staff is very friendly to all customers, especially if you are respectful and ask questions about the food. An average order with just Pho and no drink will run you about $9, so make sure to bring enough cash to splurge a little if you decide to give this place a try. Pho Vietnamese is open from 9 AM to 8 PM every day except Sunday, which runs from 11 AM to 7 PM. It is located off of South Campus by Walmart and Ralbertos. Make sure to give this place a chance if you want to warm up a little this winter.
