Update: Federal Government re-opening and impact on NAU federally sponsored grants and contracts
January 28, 2019
On Friday, January 25th, 2019, the Congress passed, and the President signed, a continuing resolution to fund affected agencies until February 15th, 2019. The Office of Management and Budget has directed agencies to prepare for an orderly reopening and provided a government reopening checklist.
Agencies will need time to resume normal operations. One example is the National Science Foundation, which posted an ALERT about resumption of operations on their main website. Other agencies such the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have extended the proposal submission deadlines for some programs.
The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) has a list of pending proposals and upcoming reports due within the next 1-2 weeks and will coordinate with the applicable sponsors and advise when alternative due dates have been established. In the meantime, please contact Patricia Cornette, OSP Pre-Award Director (Patricia.Cornette@nau.edu) or your assigned Pre-Award Administrator (PRA) if you have questions regarding the submission of your proposal. You can find your assigned PRA on the OSP website via the following url: https://in.nau.edu/osp/osp-teams/. You can also send an e-mail to the OSP general e-mail box at NAU-OSP@nau.edu.
OSP is closely monitoring the federal government budget appropriation situation, and will continue to provide guidance as clearly and timely as possible. In the meantime, performance under an already-issued contract or grant may continue, unless OSP has received a “stop work” notification from a federal funding agency or pass thru sponsor. OSP will contact the funding agency and the affected Principal Investigators (PIs) to inquire about lifting the stop work notification to continue sponsored work.
