Indigenous Student Services
Indigenous Student Services is open for participation by any freshman, transfer, continuing and graduate Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, First Nation, and Aboriginal students. The program provides a strong support network and offers co-curricular activities that help students develop and enhance academic and personal skills for a successful college experience. No application process, students are automatically opted into the program as long as students have self-identified as Native on their NAU admissions application.
Benefits include:
- Personalized guidance with a professional OISS staff member who will provide one-on-one support for academics, financial/tribal aid, and personal, cultural, and social transitions
- Peer Mentors for undergraduate students who will provide additional support to help their transition to college life
- Development of academic and personal skills for success at NAU
- Information and guidance about cultural activities, campus resources and educational opportunities
Native/Indigenous students are encouraged to read OISS email messages and announcements sent to their NAU email account and will be invited to meet with a pro staff and/or peer mentor throughout the academic year. Students are welcomed to come by the Center for Native American and Indigenous Futures (CNAIF) to use the free printing (up to 10 pages per day) and free beverage station while getting to know OISS team members on the west side of the center.
