November 2019 – Native American Heritage Month
In November, student organizations and individual departments hold campus-wide festivities commemorating Native American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian heritage. Events and activities that promote awareness of indigenous culture and contributions, include:
2nd annual Lumberjacks of Inclusion Convocation Ceremony
Thursday, December 12, 2019
6 pm MST
du Bois South Union Ballroom, Flagstaff, AZ
This ceremony will include individual recognition of graduating students who identify as Asian Pacific Islander, Black, Latinx, Rainbow, and/or Indigenous. Graduates may complete an RSVP form to indicate that they are attending. For Indigenous students who are not able to attend this event, contact the Sharon.Doctor@nau.edu at (928) 523-8086 to arrange to receive a free ivory sash.
OISS Spring 2020 events
Indigenous Convocation Ceremony
A special cultural recognition ceremony for Native American, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian students who graduated the previous fall term or are graduating in spring term. The annual ceremony is hosted by the Office of Indigenous Student Success and the Native American Cultural Center in Ardrey Auditorium and graduating students are encouraged to invite their family, friends, professors and other special guests to this honoring event.
Students who participate in the ceremony are recognized on stage with an ivory sash as their names, indigenous affiliation/ethnicity, hometown and degree name are announced. This event is open to the community.
The 2020 ceremony has been tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2020 from 3:30 to 5 PM MST at Ardrey Auditorium (bldg. 37A).
Indigenous students who apply for the May 2020 graduation or those who plan to graduate in December 2019 are encouraged to attend.
Students who plan to attend the ceremony will need to RSVP online.

Events for 2020-21
Indigenous Transfer & Graduate Welcome (ITGW) – August 23, 2020 (tentative date)
The ITGW event (free) is for new Native Indigenous transfer or graduate students. This event will begin at 10:00 AM and conclude at 3:00 PM MST at the Native American Cultural Center (bldg. 14). Topics will include: meeting the OISS staff, success tips from Transfer & Online Connections team, lunch and talking circle with Indigenous faculty, healthcare options, and open house. All food and supplies provided by OISS.
