A place for living and learning
The Health and Learning Center opened in the Fall of 2011, becoming the new home of NAU Athletics, Medical Services, and Campus Recreation Services. In addition, the Health and Learning Center also houses two floors of classrooms, the Green Scene Cafe, Essential Blends Juice Bar, four conference rooms and private and semi-private study areas.
Features
The Health and Learning Center includes the following new attractions at the Recreation Center:
- Indoor Jogging Track
- 38-foot climbing wall
- Expanded weight room
- Multipurpose Gym
- Cardio Theater
Health and mental health enhancements
- Expanded Urgent Care clinic
- Pharmacy with expanded over-the-counter and other retail items
- Enhanced confidentiality and anonymity for physical and mental health services through a single check-in with more private space
- A larger Counseling Services area with additional counselors and psychiatric services
- New and improved space for Disability Resources in a central campus location
- An office of Employee Assistance and Wellness for faculty and staff
Additional components
These components bring additional dimensions to the Health and Learning Center, and are NOT funded by student fees:
- 2 floors of general classrooms allow for growing student enrollment and renovation of other academic buildings by providing classroom “swing-space”
- Lounges designed for social gathering for students, faculty and staff
- Private individual and group study rooms
- The Green Scene Cafe, which provides healthy and sustainable meals
- Essential Blends Juice Bar
- Locker Room facilities for University Athletics Sports teams: soccer, tennis, and track and field
- A new stadium shell for Max Spilsbury field
