Positions and Position Requests
Requesting a new position vs. reusing an existing position
When you need a position number the first thing you will need to find out is if you have an existing position number that can be used. If the position is a replacement of an existing job in most cases you will use the same position number that was previously vacated. Use the position query in PeopleSoft HR to view position numbers.
If your position is new you will want to use the PeopleSoft HR position query to see if you have any vacant positions that can be reused. There are two classes of positions: pool/non-benefit eligible positions and benefit-eligible positions. In the form, select new benefit-eligible when requesting a benefit-eligible position. Pool Positions are used for non-benefit-eligible employees including Student Wage, Federal Work-Study, Graduate Assistants, Part-Time Temporary Employees, and Part-Time Temporary Faculty. These positions can have multiple employees on the same position number. Pool positions can not move between departments. Graduate Assistants and Part-Time Temporary Faculty can have a position number change ePar executed while Student Wage, Federal Work-Study, and Part-Time Temporary Employees would require a term and rehire ePars.
