Pilot Project, Year 8
Summary of project:
- This study will evaluate a caregiver training program delivered through the PEEP Family Science app to improve vocabulary development in bilingual preschool children with developmental language disorder (DLD).
- Researchers will conduct a randomized controlled trial to assess caregivers’ use of intervention strategies and children’s vocabulary growth over an 8-week period.
- The project will examine caregiver experiences through focus groups to identify opportunities to improve and adapt the intervention.
- Findings will help provide an accessible, evidence-based alternative for bilingual families who have limited access to bilingual speech-language pathologists.
- Results will support the development of scalable parent training resources to improve language outcomes for children with DLD in Arizona and similar communities.
Funding: The study is funded by NIMHD/NIH 5U54MD012388
