Submission of documentation to Institutional Review Board
All research applications must be submitted to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) through IRBNet, an externally-hosted software product.
Deadline for submitting application materials
Please submit application materials for review at least 30–45 days prior to the start of the project. Projects are reviewed on an on-going basis in the order received. Requested intake items must be completed in 7 days. The review process (e.g., revisions and IRB review) must be completed in 30 days, this includes the review and determination of a board member which requires 7 days. If either of these deadlines is not met, the submission package will be withdrawn and must be re-submitted. Submissions that are incomplete, are not responded to in a timely way, or which have outstanding issues noted, result in a delay in the review process.
Review process timeline
Submissions to the IRB are processed and reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis in the order received. The timeline to approval varies depending on the category of review, quality and completeness of a submission, revisions required and responsiveness, and number of review requests in the queue. Planning for the IRB review process will help ensure that important deadlines/timelines are met, avoiding delays in the initiation of your research. In general, investigators should plan to submit a complete application for IRB review at least 30-45 days prior to beginning studies.
