We all know the importance of physical exercise but not many realize the significance of mental exercise. Our brains need TLC just like our biceps and quads do. The ability to further grow and expand your brain powers is beneficial in everyday life. Training your brain can improve your memory, critical thinking skills, boost creativity, be in better moods, and many, many more! The first brain training activity we will utilize is meditation!
Meditation?? Yes, Meditation! Meditation is a very useful tool in expanding that brain power. It utilizes the mind, body and spirit to help you create self-awareness, boost cognitive functions, lowers blood pressure. Meditation allows you to beware of your own self; which is a great way to work your brain. Being able to take yourself away from your external environment and focus on your own internal environment will greatly increase mental positivity.
Here is a quick meditation exercise to squeeze in between your busy schedule:
- Find a place where it is quiet and where you can focus.
- Get comfortable in whatever position whether it be sitting criss-cross or laying straight down.
- Inhale and count to 5.
- Hold your breath for 3 seconds.
- Exhale and count to 8.
- Repeat for 5 minutes.
Remember to not completely lose consciousness. Focus on your breath. Do this everyday and see how it affects you!
