Revitalizing Your Body; the Healthy Way
It’s approaching the time of year where everyone is sick. Getting better can be hard but some foods and drinks can help ease the process. Food and drinks alone cannot make you better, plenty of rest and sleep is also needed. It is best to avoid dairy; dairy makes being congested much worse. Things like fruit and vegetables are good as they always are in a balanced diet.
Papaya is very good for the stomach, and is very tasty. If you need some more flavor, a little bit of salt makes fruit like candy. Kombucha works very well for an upset stomach because of the natural enzymes called probiotics. Probiotics can also be found in pill form.
Be sure to get plenty of vitamins; vitamin C in particular. Vitamin C can be found in pill form or as a powder to mix with water. Teas can help a sore throat. Adding honey is also good for the throat while adding some flavor. Tea is a tasty alternative to water that can give you a boost of energy. Drinking enough fluids are essential to your overall health. Hydration is especially important because of Flagstaff’s high elevation. It is much easier to get dehydrated.
Aim for about one to two gallons of water a day.
Soup and broth are great things to eat when you are sick. Bone broth can also be bought very cheap and is great for muscle recovery and acts as a great base for a soup if you’d like to make your own. I like to mix bone broth with hot water and a little bit of seasoning. All of these things are good to take on a regular basis as is, but as always, be sure to look at the ingredients to make sure you are not exceeding a healthy amount of any one thing.
