Residence Hall Essentials

Posted by Peer Jack Mentors on October 18, 2018

As Midterms are slowly coming more and more to the forefront of all of our schedules, our lives can start getting more and more hectic. As this time gets busier it can be very easy to slip into a more disorganized mind and with that disorganized mind comes a possible disorganized space. This weeks Dorm Essentials are here to help you stay organized as life gets crazy. I have found that the best things to help out in this situation are a desk calendar and storage bins.

Number 1: Desk Calendar

Desk calendars are a great investment for the beginning of the year when you get all your syllabus but they can be just as helpful now. Being able to see a long term view of assignments and test can be very helpful in prioritizing your study schedule for exams. You can see what exam is most important and what exam you can possibly push studying off for a few days. I did not start using a desk calendar until this year and it honestly has helped me so much with planning out study schedule and having a big perspective for even small assignments really helps me to avoid procrastination. Big Picture calendars are not always for everyone but hopefully this idea can give you another way to help stay organized.

Number 2: Storage Bins

Storage bins are great and are totally universal in their use. If you have a messy space in your room that you want to hide just throw all the stuff in a storage bin. Storage bins are also great because you can find them in literally any style to match the aesthetic you have in your room. Bins can also look really good anywhere, on a shelf, at the end of your bed, in the closet. It really makes a space look so organized even if the contents in the bin are a jumbled mess. I have a row of my bookshelf of bins that house a bunch of different items. They come in handy when I have items that I don’t really have a home for yet so they end up there. A warning does come with bins though is that sometimes you can lose items because of these bins and then you have to dig through all of them to try and find what you are looking for. Besides maybe losing an item or two, storage bins are aesthetically pleasing and help manage the mess that your room has the potential to become.

Midterms can be a stressful time for sure and disorganization happens all the time but hopefully these items having the Kaylee Stamp of approval will allow you to have a clear space and a clear mind and give you the best chance possible to pass your midterms.
