I wish I knew you I was in charge of my college education!
In high school, I remember my counselor very well. After all, she helped me figure out my next step in life: college. But before she helped with any of that, she strictly oversaw any and every class I took in high school. I took was she told me I needed to, to graduate high school. Now, I have an advisor, not a counselor, and I love it! He is simply there to help me navigate the details of NAU- gen eds, which classes meet what requirements, ect – but I am in full control over the education I want. I can do this with two things: LOUIE and my progression plan. We have all worked with LOUIE (I hope). You know the basics: search classes, create your schedule, pay tuition. But, did you know you can also add and drop majors on LOUIE? You do not need to go see your advisor about anything you choose to add or drop. To do this you log on to LOUIE, click “my academics” on the right-hand side, then click “majors and other plans
It is easy, quick, and you can do this daily. While doing this, I suggest you consider knowing exactly what you will be getting into with any majors or minors you decide. This is where a progression plan comes in; every major has one. To find this, simply google your major and academic year (the year you started at NAU). For example, “NAU Nursing 2018.” From here you click the link that matches your search and it will list every class/type of class you will ever need to graduate with that major. You can also do this with minors and certificates, to see what may overlap with your interests.
