As we are approaching finals, it is a great time to reflect on what needs to be done (and how to survive it). Although there are only 2.5 weeks left, it may feel like there is more to be done than before. Projects are due, essays are due, and on top of that, we have a great deal of studying to do. It is a lot, but there are a variety of ways we can tackle these obstacles. Take a deep breath, and read on to get ready for the end of the semester!
- Make a list: This might sound way too simple, but hear me out! Creating a list of everything left in the semester will help you visualize exactly what needs to be done- maybe even that mini reflection assignment you forgot about? The list might seem overwhelming to see everything that’s left, but focusing on the fact that this is ALL that is left and is way shorter than the list at the beginning of the semester should allow you to relax a bit. Realizing we have accomplished 14 weeks of the semester and there are only two left should allow you to feel empowered.
- Grade calculator: It is one thing to know what needs to be done, but it is another thing to know how much time to dedicate to each class. Using a grade calculator to figure out what grade you need on your final to get the grade you want overall can help guide your studying in the next few weeks. Studying, in my experience, should be delegated to your most difficult class, and also by which final you are taking the soonest. Knowing exactly what you are headed into when you go to take a final may help you manage the stresses of finals.
- Take care of yourself: Aside from being prepared for finals in terms of studying, it is also important to be physically prepared. A huge stereotype of college is that we all have to stay up all night in order to pass our test the next morning. The truth? Sleep will allow you to focus on the exam and possibly do better than you would without; in all, sleep deprivation is not the answer. This is a delicate time where you do not want to get sick, so ensuring you are getting enough rest and eating well will put you right on track to be prepared for finals. It is possible to manage your time to allow for self-care and studying. Don’t neglect yourself!
