Moving into a dorm for the first time always seems to be a little stressful, Sharing a room with someone new, meeting new people in your hall, and probably the biggest stressor of all, knowing what is most necessary and what is not. My goal is to help you make sure you have all the essentials so that your dorm stays practical and up to trend as the year goes along.
This week I want to talk about two things that made my life in the dorms way less stressful. The first item is a bathrobe and the second are shower shoes. These two items for some may seem like a no brainer, but for those of you who do not have these items yet let me enlighten you on how these items can make dorm life so much easier.
Number 1: The Bathrobe
A bathrobe makes sense for some, but if not, here are some benefits to a bathrobe. Most importantly, a bathrobe ensures complete body privacy as you stroll from your room to the bathroom. This sense of security is quite nice in the hall as you travel back and forth to the bathroom while everybody is walking about as well. A bathrobe also ensures that your clothes do not get soaked in the shower stall. Before I had a bathrobe my freshman year, i would walk to the bathroom fully clothed and bring a change of clothes with me and without a doubt one set, clean or dirty, would get wet. The bathrobe allows you to change in your room before you go to the bathroom to shower and then after your done you can just walk back to your room and change in there again. A bathrobe sense of security and sensibility makes it my number one dorm essential. For those who live in dorms that just have a shared bathroom between rooms I still suggest getting one, it serves the same purposes even in a slightly more private area and they are super comfortable.
Number 2: Shower Shoes
I feel like shower shoes should be common sense, but for all of us who previously came from a private bathrooms in our own homes it sometimes seem weird that we have to wear shoes while we shower. Shower shoes have many benefits, number one being the protection from bacteria. This may seem gross but who knows how many people are in and out of the community showers in a dorm building. Wearing shower shoes protects you from the gross stuff people bring in and out of the bathroom along with the gross stuff they wash off their body. Along with protecting you from bacteria, shower shoes can be fun. you can find a pair in any color to match whatever aesthetic you may choose and if they are fun, it makes it seem like their purpose is a little less gross.
Dorm rooms are a space that allow you to be creative, but these are some must have for overall dorm living that are important to mention!! Being a few weeks into the semester I hope that you have already purchased these items but if not, you now have Kaylee’s stamp of approval, so go out and get them!!
