The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has issued updated guidance as a follow-up to OMB Memo M-25-13, clarifying that not all federal grants are subject to the temporary pause.
Additionally, late in the afternoon on January 28, 2025, a federal judge temporarily blocked part of the Trump administration’s plans to freeze all federal aid. The short-term pause issued by U.S. District Judge, Loren L. AliKhan, prevents the administration from carrying through with its plans to freeze funding for “open awards” already granted by the federal government through at least 5 p.m. ET on Monday, February 3, 2025 (Judge blocks Trump freeze on federal grants and loans until Monday | AP News).
What does this mean for current federally funded awards at NAU?
- Please continue to review your award(s). Investigators and administrators should continue to review the alignment of their grants with the executive orders and guidance that is issued (see guidance repository with hyperlinks below). Programs inconsistent with federal administration priorities may receive sponsor notification that the project is paused or modified.
- Please be patient while waiting for federal agency or sponsor guidance. As progress is made between sponsor agencies and the OMB, federal agencies will provide additional instructions to grantees, including NAU.
