Student in the Accelerated Master’s Program

Why did you choose NAU and what did you like about it?

NAU is located in a beautiful city. School can be stressful, so it is nice to be able to escape outdoors on the weekends.

  • How did your program at NAU prepare you for your career goals and your dream job?

The accelerated master’s will allow me to graduate within a year and quickly move on to my dream job working on satellites and rockets. Additionally, I have gained confidence in my abilities and learned lots of interesting engineering concepts and skills.

  • Can you describe your research or a specific project that had a significant impact on your learning?

I got to work on developing the training data set for developing machine learning-assisted surrogate models of complex space structures. This gave me an opportunity to consider the kinds of problems I hope to work on in the future. I also got to be very familiar with finite element analysis and the uncertainty of material properties.

  • What skills did you develop during your studies, and how did your professors or mentors influence your academic journey?

I got the chance to work with some cool software, like Fluent, and apply it to a project that I really cared about. My studies allowed me to develop skills with all kinds of software and analytical methods. My professors and mentors were able to share topics with me and expand my range of passions within engineering.

  • Would you recommend this program to others, and what advice would you give to prospective students?

I would definitely recommend the accelerated master’s program to other students. My advice would be to try to enjoy all that Flagstaff has to offer and make the most of your time here!
