The McDonald-Anderson Scholarship application now open

The College of Arts and Letters McDonald-Anderson Scholarship is now available for CAL students each semester who meet the following criteria:

  • An undergraduate major in one of the following departments: Comparative Cultural Studies, English, Global Languages and Cultures, History, and Philosophy
  • Has expenses incurred from one of the following: attending a Professional Development Conference or presenting at a Scholarly Conference (students presenting as individuals rather than as members of a group have priority)

Amount of Support
Two awards of up to $500 (method: reimbursement of expenses after attendance and with receipts) each semester. If no award is made in a given semester, an additional award will be made in subsequent terms.

Timeline
Fall applications are due no later than 11:59 PM on October 15, 2024 (or the following Monday if the date falls on a weekend). Awards will be allocated no later than October 25.  Submit your application via email to Associate Dean Alexandra Carpino: alexandra.carpino@nau.edu.

Spring applications are due no later than 11:59 PM on February 15, 2025 (or the following Monday if the date falls on a weekend). Awards will be announced no later than February 25, 2025. Submit your application via ScholarshipUniverse (https://legacy.nau.edu/office-scholarships-financial-aid/scholarshipuniverse/) any time after January 13.

Submission Requirements

Provide your Name, Student ID Number, and list your CAL major AND

  1. Write a one-page, single-spaced statement about the conference’s theme and content, your reason for attendance, and its relationship to your professional development and/or scholarly plans. Conclude with how the conference will contribute to your career goals.
  2. Attach a flyer, link, or other documentation about the conference. If you are presenting a paper at a scholarly conference, please submit confirmation of acceptance.
  3. If applicable, submit a faculty member’s endorsement of your attendance at the conference.
  4. List all sources of additional funding support for which you have applied or which you have received.
