We’re providing essential information to help you prepare for your nursing education journey, including what to expect during your studies, an overview of clinical experiences, and additional resources available at each of our campus locations. Whether you’re attending in Flagstaff, North Valley, Tucson, or Yuma, you’ll find the tools and guidance you need to succeed in your academic and professional goals. Nursing school is an exciting and challenging experience, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Understanding your nursing school experience Details will be discussed at Orientation as well, but here’s a start:
- It is recommended to have reliable transportation to and from campus.
- Local transportation is available in each city but does not always stop near our clinical agencies.
- Carpool may also be an option.
- Not all clinicals are conducted around campus and will require traveling.
- A laptop is required. Chromebooks do not support all applications used during class or testing.
- Classes, clinicals, and labs are conducted in person unless otherwise communicated.
- First-semester students cannot request days and times for classes or clinicals. Groups are established by the course lead. For all other semesters (2–4 for CBSN and TBSN), student requests are considered for clinical placement.
- During the final semester, students complete a preceptorship in which they are at a healthcare agency with a precepting RN, usually for 3 twelve-hour shifts per week.
- We consider nursing school to be a full-time job as it requires a lot of time and energy between lectures, clinicals, labs, studying, and exams. A full-time work schedule is not usually feasible for most nursing students.
- However, nursing students may find it necessary to work a part-time job while in nursing school.
- Many get practical, hands-on job experience in the healthcare field.
- The most important part of a part-time job is flexibility in the work schedule along with excellent time management skills.
Flagstaff
It is recommended to have reliable transportation to and from campus.
- Local transportation is available in Flagstaff, but does not always stop near our clinical agencies.
- Carpooling may also be an option.
- Not all clinicals are conducted in Flagstaff and will require traveling.
- Each semester of nursing school is different in terms of hours and classes.
- Students can expect to be in person for class from 6–12 hours a week.
- Online lecture is 3–6 hours per week.
- Each semester, students have skills labs and clinicals from 10–20 hours per week.
- For example:
- First-semester students are in person for 3 classes for a total of 10 hours per week.
- Online class is 3 hours per week.
- Clinicals are 10 hours per week.
- For example:
- Clinical experiences are located in various healthcare and community agencies located throughout northern Arizona, and each semester is different for clinical placement.
- Some areas that students travel to include Prescott Valley, Cottonwood, Kingman, and Tuba City.

North Valley

- Course testing may be completed in-person or online.
- Each semester of nursing school is different in terms of hours and classes.
- Traditional students can expect to be in person for class between 6–12 hours a week.
- Online lecture for class is 3–6 hours per week.
- Each semester, students have skills labs and clinicals for 10–20 hours per week.
- For example:

Tucson
Requirements
- Reliable transportation is required.
- The College of Nursing is located on the Pima Community College West campus.
- Clinical sites are located throughout Tucson, and buses do not always run at the times you must arrive.
- One of the clinical sites is located in an area where buses do not operate.
- Tucson gets very hot in August and September, so walking or riding a bike is not recommended.
- A laptop is required. Chromebooks do not support all applications used during class or testing.
- Wi-Fi is available on campus. Students will need access to Wi-Fi outside of campus.
- Pima Guest – allows 72-hour access but has slow service.
- Eduroam (Educational Roaming) – faster network using NAU credentials.
- Personal Hotspot or Wi-Fi device.
- PCC and UA libraries have Wi-Fi access. Contact locations for up-to-date information.
Housing
There is no on-campus housing at Pima Community College.

Food
- Bringing your own food and drinks during your time on campus is recommended.
- There is a small cafeteria/store at Pima CC operated by a third-party vendor, but there are not many healthy food options.
Healthcare
- UA Campus Health
- NAU students can be seen at their facility.
- They do require payment in full at the time of service.
- Call 520-621-9202 to schedule an appointment prior to coming into the facility. Inform them that you are an NAU student, and provide a student ID number.
- Students will need to submit their own insurance claim to the insurance provider as UA does not bill insurance.
- Private physician
- You may locate a local provider using your medical insurance benefit provider list.
Counseling and Mental Health
- NAU Campus Health Services
- Provides telehealth through their licensed counseling providers.

- UA Campus Health
- Available to NAU students. Please call ahead of time.
- Call 520-621-9202 to schedule an appointment prior to coming into the facility. Inform them that you are an NAU student, and provide a student ID number.
- The number of counseling visits is limited.
- Students must pay for services at the time services are provided.

- Private psychologist or psychiatrist
- Please use your personal medical insurance website to locate a provider in the Tucson area.
Exercise and fitness
- UA Campus Rec is available to NAU students.
- Membership is required through the purchase of annual, semester, or short-term passes.
- Tucson has a wide range of fitness facilities in the area at membership cost.
- Apartment complexes also have their own fitness facilities.
Tutoring
There are students willing to help, but hours are based on their schedule.
Library and computer lab
- Pima CC West campus is owned and operated by Pima Community College.
- NAU students are considered community users in the library system and are allowed to use the space when available.
- To reserve the private study room, contact library staff.
- The facility can be accessed during normal operating hours.
- UA main campus
- The UA library partners with Pima CC to ensure resources are available.

NAU Nursing Advisor
Yuma
Each semester of nursing school is different in terms of hours and classes. Most classes are held Monday–Friday from 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- You will be enrolled in your nursing courses by the NAU–Yuma College of Nursing Academic Program Coordinator.
- Reliable transportation is necessary to get to and from the campus and clinical sites located in various areas around the community. Yuma does have a bus system, the YCAT, but it might not run at the time or to the places you need to be.
Housing
NAU College of Nursing does not secure housing arrangements for students. When looking for a place to live while attending NAU–Yuma, please consider the distance to the school and to your clinical sites. Each students’ circumstances are varied, and it is your responsibility to do due diligence in researching the area in which you choose to live, the duration of your lease, the distance to campus and clinical sites, etc.
NAU–Yuma is located at 2020 S. Avenue 8E, Yuma, AZ 85365. (We share a campus with Arizona Western College).
Apartment information
Sites like Apartments.com and other online apartment listings or local realtors can provide help to find suitable housing.
AWC campus housing information:
- NAU students are also eligible for AWC on-campus housing.
- In addition to the housing application, you will need to apply for admission to AWC.
Other housing:
- If you prefer to rent a home/condo while in Yuma, you can contact a local property management company for more information.
Roommate list:
- An email requesting contact information for roommate(s) will be emailed within a few days after all contracts are received for anyone interested in possibly sharing living accommodations.
Counseling and Mental Health
