Adopt-an-Avenue Community Project

On December 16, 2024, faculty and staff from the Department of Social Work came together to participate in a community clean-up effort along their designated section of East Pine Knoll Drive near the Flagstaff campus. The initiative was coordinated by Dr. Michael McCarthy in collaboration with the City of Flagstaff, which provided essential clean-up supplies, including safety vests, gloves, garbage and recycling bags, and trash grabbers.

Compassion + Action: Social Work Month Recap

This year, the Social Work Month Committee organized a dynamic series of events inspired by the NASW’s national theme, Compassion + Action. With a focus on creativity, collaboration, and community engagement, the month-long celebration in March invited participation from across disciplines.

Relaunch of Community Partners Council

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the NAU Social Work Community Partners Council had its first meeting. The purpose of the Social Work Community Partners Council is to maintain a strong link between the professional community and the academic community. CSWE Accreditation Reaffirmation

The NAU Department of Social Work Leadership Team, including the Chair, Associate Chairs, Program Coordinators, and other key personnel have been heavily engaged in BSW and MSW Program reaccreditation since the summer of 2024. This work culminated in the submission of our BSW and MSW self-study documents to our accrediting body, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), on April 1, 2025, with a 2-day site visit to follow in October of 2025.
