While attending Northern Arizona University, Eileen held the position of a research assistant where she focused her research on abuse of migrants in private detention facilities and public perceptions of asylum seekers. In her research, Eileen employed qualitative and quantitative data analysis to further our understanding of the American immigration system.
Graduating in just two years, Eileen has been preparing for life after NAU from the time she stepped on campus. Motivated by her research interests and her community’s experience with immigration, Eileen wanted to challenge her skills in order to prepare for a career in law.
In her search, Eileen approached Dr. Nuño and discussed her career preparation. It was then that Dr. Nuño presented Eileen with an opportunity to spend the semester doing research on her issue as she prepared for life after NAU. Through the lab, she met Dr. Aguilera-López, a professor and Dean at the Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico. After graduation she spent time in Monterrey surveying classes.
Now Eileen is working for a law firm, Salazar Law, and she is using her skills to lead and immigration defense team in support of asylum seekers trying to stay in the United States. Eileen’s experience and hard work will undoubtedly open more doors for her as she continues strengthening her resume in preparation for law school.
