It’s bigger, it’s better and it’s back! For the third year, the Northern Arizona Disability Resource Fair returns to Flagstaff on Oct. 3 at the High Country Conference Center. The community event, presented by the Institute for Human Development (IHD) and Care 4 the Caregivers, offers helpful resources and the opportunity to connect with local service providers and disability organizations.
The fair is put on in conjunction with other disability-related Northern Arizona regional organizations, including Flagstaff Unified School District–Exceptional Student Services, High Country Adaptive Sports, Northern Arizona Healthcare’s Children’s Health Center and Quality Connections.
“Organizing this event is a collaborative effort,” said Adi Schaeffer, the events manager for IHD. “This year representatives from six different disability organizations are involved with planning and coordination. Our goals are twofold: to showcase the breadth of disability services available in northern Arizona and to provide a forum for community-building and networking.”
Launched in 2024, the Northern Arizona Disability Resource Fair came about as a response to members of the community noting that disability resources fairs and expos in Arizona generally take place in the Phoenix area, making it difficult for families to attend due to distance and travel logistics. Additionally, many of the service providers at these fairs don’t provide services in northern Arizona.
Over the past two years, the fair has proven successful with sold-out exhibitor tables, attendance of more than 150 community members and enthusiastic feedback from attendees. This year’s event will feature more than 40 exhibitors and sponsors, a 20% increase from previous years, representing a wide range of local disability resources and supports, including educational services, parent support organizations, telephonic services, athletic fitness training services and more.
“Our planning committee’s goal is for the event to become part of the fabric of the local disability community, and we were gratified to see over 20% growth in attendance last year,” Schaffer said. “This is really meant to be community-based. That’s the whole feel and spirit of it.”
The 2026 fair will be held from 1-4 p.m. at the High Country Conference Center, 201 W. Butler Ave, in Flagstaff. The event is free and open to the public, with free parking for all attendees. In addition to an accessible obstacle course and a sensory room, attendees can expect inclusive, family-friendly activities such as face painting, refreshments and door prizes.
