What to expect
You’ll spend the first 3 years of the program building cultural and professional skills while completing requirements for your STEM, Business, or Psychological Science degree and Language or Cultural degree. IGP offers inclusive programming to practice your global career skills and keep you on track for graduation throughout your time with the program.
During your 4th year, you’ll get the opportunity to study abroad in the language you’re learning to provide you with cultural and language immersion, as well as a 5 month internship in your field of study.

Orientation

Career Planning
- Continue to take classes in both of your majors

- Continue to gain insights into cultural theory and connect with Level 5 students

1 year abroad = coursework + international internship or research
Your IGP year abroad occurs in your 4th year at NAU. It includes two parts: coursework (both in your subject major as well as your language or cultural studies major) and an international internship or research experience.

What to expect for your FALL semester abroad?
Spring semester
Complete an internship, research, or fieldwork experience abroad in your discipline, while immersed in your host country culture and often, language
What to expect for your SPRING semester abroad?
- Complete your international internship or research experience (540 hours).
- Enroll in a language class to keep up with your proficiency (if time allows).
- Submit internship course deliverables to your instructor/faculty mentor.
- Complete your language checkpoint D.
- Maintain communication with your IGP region lead, your EA advisor and your faculty mentor.
- Enroll in classes at NAU for your 5th year and apply for housing.
- Immerse yourself in the culture by making time to travel and explore.
