Language placement
Do you already have experience with a language? If you have language experience from either school or home there are a few options to make sure that you are in the correct course level of the language and that you are getting credit for the courses you test out of if you place into a higher level than 101. At NAU you can test into a higher level language course (proficiency/placement tests) and/or earn credits for lower level courses (retrocredit).

For detailed information please refer to the Global Languages and Culture placement and proficiency website. Based on your previous language experience, enroll at your predicted entry level. If above a 101 level, an assessment from a faculty member will be required before the start of the semester.
Spanish
Students seeking Spanish classes above 101 need to take the Online Placement Exam and follow the instructions for enrollment.

In your email please include the following as the subject line, “Placement Needed for Enrollment/Pre-requisite Override.”
If placement above 101 is deemed appropriate, request the instructor submit an “Electronic Enrollment Request” on your behalf.

If you successfully complete a higher level language course (with a grade of B or better), you will receive credit hours for the course you are enrolled in and the appropriate number of ungraded retroactive credit hours if you pay the fee and apply by the deadline.
Deadline: You must apply and pay for retroactive credit within the first four weeks of the semester in which you are attempting the language; aka: enrolled in the more advanced course.
