Virtual Compute Node
ARC supports researchers requiring high-priority and/or dedicated access to compute node resources by providing the means of purchasing Virtual Compute Node (VCN) resources. A VCN is a set of flexible “bare-metal” compute resources that are purchased equating to the price of a comparably equipped current configuration, new compute node. VCN resources are utilized by a PI group through a combination of high-priority Quality of Service (QoS) as well as when needed Slurm reservations.
The current compute node price is $10,500 and includes the following configuration:
- Dual socket, 32 core CPU
- 256GB memory
- 500GB local disk
- HDR100 infiniband interconnect
The current price for a VCN is $2,100 per fiscal year. ARC can accommodate pre-pays of VCN resources for up to 5 years.
The VCN resources will provide the highest priority access to compute node resources and will preempt “free” as well as bypass normal fairshare jobs in the Slurm queue. In addition, ARC will provide a Slurm reservation equivalent VCN resource where needed as the need arises.
