Peace Corps Prep

Interested in a career in global community service?

The Peace Corps Prep Certificate is now offered at NAU!

Peace Corps Prep is a certificate program that prepares undergraduate students for international development work, careers in international service, and the Peace Corps. It is open to all students in good academic standing from all majors.

To successfully complete this program and earn a Peace Corps Prep certificate, students will build four core competencies through interrelated coursework, hands-on experience, and professional development support. The four competencies, or “learning objectives,” are:

  • Training and experience: Take classes and complete fieldwork experience in one of six work sectors: education, health, environment, agriculture, youth in development, community economic development.
  • Foreign language proficiency: Develop your Spanish or French skills if you plan on serving in the Peace Corps in Latin America or West Africa. If you are interested in serving in another region, there is no language requirement though language study is highly encouraged.
  • Intercultural competence: Take courses that help you reflect on your identity and place in the world while building intercultural competence skills.
  • Professional savvy and leadership: Attend professional development workshops through NAU Career services and gain significant leadership experience.

How to Apply

  1. Meet with the Peace Corps Prep coordinator
