Congratulations to BIS 90-30 Interdisciplinary Studies Humanities major Kayt Ludi, our Outstanding Senior for Comparative Cultural Studies in Fall 2021!
Kayt moved to Arizona in 2010 from California and had already completed 96 credits at another institution in pursuit of an English degree but looked to transfer as many of the credits as possible. She found the answer in the statewide campus 90/30 programs offered by NAU, which are transfer-friendly fully online degrees in which students can transfer up to 90 lower-division credits (10 courses) so students can complete their degrees without locating. NAU is the only university in Arizona with such a program. While Kayt chose our program as it was the only one that would give her credit for classes, she remarks that “The courses I’ve taken as part of this program have been the most interesting and thought-provoking of my entire academic career. I feel that I’ve been altered in the best possible ways by this degree; that I’m a fundamentally more intellectually opened up and culturally informed person than I began. Obtaining this degree in Humanities, though not the original plan, is one of those twists in life that ended up being better than the original plan, and one for which I will always be grateful.” She completed many online courses in CCS and enjoyed the courses that involved film the most and especially those with Lecturer in the Comparative Study of Religions Dr. Diana Coleman. Kayt writes of Dr. Coleman that “She is a great professor, and the materials in her courses were among the most enlightening, engaging, and thought-provoking of my time at NAU so far.” Now that she has completed her undergraduate degree, Kayt intends to pursue a M.A. in English with a focus on literature next semester and eventually would like to complete a Ph.D. in the same field.
