Travel & accommodations
The Third International Workshop on Biological Soil Crusts will take place in beautiful Moab, Utah, a community in the heart of the southwestern United States with exceptional recreational and cultural opportunities for the visitor. Moab is famous for its proximity to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks with their colorful rock arches, canyons, mesas, and buttes. Surrounded by thousands of square miles of amazing red rock landscapes, Moab is also well-known for its access to world-class mountain biking, hiking, and canyoneering. Visitors can also experience whitewater rafting, canoeing, or kayaking on the Colorado River.
Conference facility
The conference will take place at Star Hall, a theater built in 1906 that has been lovingly restored, in the heart of downtown Moab and a few minutes walk from local restaurants, pubs, hotels, and shopping. Star Hall, also known as the Moab Art Theater, is at 159 East Center Street, Moab, Utah.
Conference group accommodations
The conference group accommodations at Kokopelli 100 West (Address: 236 N 100 W, Moab) are now full. The cabins include a small kitchen and are located within walking distance from Star Hall, the conference venue. Each cabin sleeps three guests and includes one full bed and two bunk beds. Guests can check-in starting Sunday, September 25, and check-out as late as the morning of Saturday, October 1.
Conference accommodations
Conference organizers have secured group rates at the hotels listed below, which are close to Star Hall. Moab will be particularly busy during 2016 because the U.S. National Park Service is celebrating its centennial anniversary, so please reserve accommodations well in advance of the workshop.

Conference rate: $89/night (does not include taxes), which includes a room with two queen beds. The Virginian Motel is located downtown and within walking distance of Star Hall. The Motel is small and does not have the ability to take secure payments online, but it will take reservations by phone or email. If you are joining the conference from outside the United States and calling the hotel with your credit card is not possible, you can reserve your room by email and pay upon arrival.
