HPC User Agreement
User Accountability
Users are accountable for their actions. Violations of this policy may result in temporary or permanent suspension of use privileges.
Resource Use
HPC resources are to be used solely to aid in research related work and classroom topic exploration. This includes either funded or unfunded research projects occurring in academic departments or research centers at NAU.
Research purposes can include data analysis or exploration, computational method development and testing, and other tasks specifically related to research projects. HPC resources cannot be used for any other purpose.
Intellectual Property Rights
Use of Monsoon constitutes “Significant Use of Board or University Resources” as defined by Arizona Board of Regents Intellectual Property Policy 6-908 (page 16). Users should read and understand the Policy, which applies to all university faculty, staff, students and others who create intellectual property in the course and scope of NAU employment and/or with Significant Use of Board or University Resources.
Passwords and Usernames
Passwords must not be shared with any other person and must be changed as soon as possible after an unacceptable exposure, suspected compromise or by direction of ITS or HPC support staff.
Users are not allowed to share their accounts. Doing so will result in the account being disabled.
Notification
Users must notify HPC staff immediately when they become aware that any of the accounts used to access Monsoon have been compromised. Users should also promptly inform HPC support staff of any changes in their contact information.
Software and Data
All software used on Monsoon must be appropriately acquired and used according to the appropriate licensing agreement. Possession, use or transmission of illegally obtained software is prohibited. Likewise, users shall not copy, store or transfer copyrighted software or data onto Monsoon, except as permitted by the owner of the copyright.
Malicious Activity
Users are prohibited from changing or circumventing access controls that allow themselves or others to perform actions outside their intended authorized privileges.
Any attempt to engage in unlawful use of HPC resources for activities such as: crypto mining, crime, penetration testing, distributed denial of service (DDOS), exploitation of security vulnerabilities, or other actions in violation of JM § 9-48.000 will result in law enforcement involvement in addition to the deactivation of your HPC account.
Monitoring and Privacy
Users have no explicit or implicit expectation of privacy. ARC staff retain the right to and actively monitors the content of all activities on HPC clusters and interconnected resources.
Misuse of resources can lead to temporary or permanent disabling of accounts, permanent loss of use privileges, and disciplinary actions.
Terms of Service
In order to confirm your HPC account, you must read and accept the terms listed on both the Policies and the User Agreement.
