Tech transfer

What is technology transfer?

Technology transfer is the process of moving research discoveries into public and commercial use. At NAU, this includes identifying research with commercial potential, protecting intellectual property, working with industry partners, licensing technology, and managing licenses. Faculty, staff, and students gain experience in patent law, commercialization, and economic development through participation in the technology transfer process.

Benefits of technology transfer

The transfer of intellectual property (IP) from the university to industry allows research results to be developed into products and services that can be used by the public. When technologies are licensed, revenue is returned to the university and shared with the inventors. Relationships built with Industry partnerships and potential licensees can help support continuing research.

Advisory Board and Intellectual Property Committee

The NAU Innovations Advisory Board provides strategic guidance, advice, and suggestions to NAU Innovations on issues related to industry partnerships, sponsors, and commercialization. Learn more about the board and its current members.
