You will need 6 pieces of tagboard, each piece 12″ X 18″. Follow these picture directions to build your pockets.

Pocket 1: The Pinyon Pine
You will have 5 pages to put in this pocket.
- Print out My Pinyon Facts. Use your notebook and activities from Task 1 to help you write at least three facts about Pinyon Pine trees. Draw or paste pictures on the bottom of the page.
- Print out the Two Needle Coloring Page. Read the paragraph and color the picture.
- Print out the Single Needle Coloring Page. Color the picture.
- Print out the Southwest Map of Pinyon Pine Trees.
- Use this website and print out the U.S. map with the range of the two needle pinyon.

There will be a long list of names of plants. Looking at the third column of the list, scroll down until you find Pinus edulis. The list is in a-b-c order. Click on the Graphic(PDF) in the first column and you will find a map to print.
Pocket 2: Climate Change
- Put in the results of your experiment with the effects of temperature on water.
- Put in your solutions for climate change from Task 6.
Pocket 3: The Scale Insect
- Put in your drawings of the life cycle of the scale insect. Make sure you have labeled with correct spelling and have neat work.
- Write a paragraph: When the weather is hotter and there is less rain, what do you predict will happen to the number of scale on pinyon trees? Will the trees be hurt by this?
Pocket 4: Data Analysis
- Put in your log of your local weather.
- Put in your predictions for any changes in the weather that might be coming up. What are your reasons for predicting these changes?
Pocket 5: Native American Uses of Pinyon Pine
- Put in your student sheet of notes from Task 5.
- Write a paragraph: What do you think would happen to Native American traditions if there were much fewer pinyon pine or if they were no longer available in the areas where they are used?
