Program overview description
This 9-month program provides Native American college students in the Four Corners region with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in health and educational outreach through the development of a new quarterly webinar series.
An intent of this webinar series is to show young scholars that cancer research and health equity approaches with Native American populations involves scholars and professionals from many different disciplines – not just lab science!
Program benefits
- Receive a travel scholarship to attend the Arizona Inter-Tribal Cancer Health Equity Forum in Flagstaff, AZ, in Fall 2024
- Receive a $50 stipend for each meeting attended (Total: $450 for 9 meetings/year, including forum attendance)
- Receive mentorship from Native American public health professionals
- Build your network and resume with career-related experience
Student eligibility requirements
- Enrolled member of a federally-recognized Native American tribal nation
- Undergraduate student (Junior or Senior status), or a Graduate student (Masters/PhD)
- Pursuing a degree in the fields of public health, biological sciences, clinical sciences, health sciences, environmental health, nutrition, nursing, and related areas
- Attending a university, college, or tribal college in the Four Corners region (AZ, CO, NM, and UT)
- Interest in growing career-related skills in virtual event facilitation, public speaking, marketing/promotions and program evaluation
Timeline
- January 17, 2024: Application Period Opens
- February 26, 2024: EXTENDED Application Period Closes at 12:00 PM (noon), MST
- February 27-March 1, 2024: Scheduled Applicant Interviews (Zoom-based)
- March 5, 2024: Selection of Applicants to Coalition Cohort Occurs
- March 20-22, 2024: Official Announcement of 2024 Coalition Cohort
