Abstract
This curriculum is connected to twentieth-century and contemporary Native North American art with a focused emphasis on today’s contemporary Native American art. This curriculum will emphasize how understanding contemporary Native American art can promote cultural pride and self-identity, further preservation of heritage, honor cultural ancestry, and aid in remembrance of the history and events of a group of Native American people through modern and contemporary art.
This curriculum will further an understanding of how contemporary art and artists like Gerald Nailor (Navajo) have created a window of vision to our early culture, providing a connection to our ancestors, and how their work illustrates and tells the important history of an indigenous group of people, in this curriculum specifically the Navajo (Diné) people.
