Abstract

This unit is intended for my fourth grade students who were placed in a Structured English Immersion (SEI) program. Students who are in my class are considered English Learners, and they have a unique set of English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards designed for them to follow, along with the Arizona State standards. The goal is to reclassify these students into general education classrooms within two years after they are identified.

Students in a structured English Immersion class are faced with a unique challenge. Most of the students in an SEI class are typically two grades levels below in reading compared to their peers. Most of the students struggle with grammar, vocabulary, writing, and especially reading foundation.
