Biography

I am a 1st grade teacher at Kinsey Inquiry and Discovery School in Flagstaff. I am originally from Dolores, Colorado but I have lived and worked in Flagstaff for over 20 years. Flagstaff’s diverse community has been such a great place to raise my son. I have loved living within the four corners region because of the unique geological features and the cultural influences that make this region so special. After watching some of my colleagues participate in the Diné institute, I could see the importance of developing a culturally responsive curriculum. I feel like the westernized education is not always reaching all of the diverse student populations at our schools. Participating in this opportunity was a way to bridge that gap. Developing a curriculum that encompasses this unique area, the culture, the language and values of my students are at the core of my role in providing them with essential learning.
