Biography

I am Jocelyn Serrano, a Filipino educator whose professional journey has taken me from the vibrant landscapes of the Philippines to the serene and culturally rich community of Cibecue, Arizona. As a high school math teacher at Dishchii’bikoh Community School, I am honored to be part of a learning environment where the traditions, values, and voices of the White Mountain Apache Tribe are not only recognized but celebrated. This experience has greatly shaped my understanding of education’s role in honoring culture, building community, and preserving identity.
My professional path began in the Philippines, where I earned a degree in Elementary Education with a major in Mathematics. Even as a young teacher, I was deeply passionate about creating meaningful educational experiences for my students. This passion led me to pursue a master’s degree in mathematics, which deepened my understanding of inclusive education and the unique needs of diverse learners. Currently, I am continuing my professional growth by pursuing a second master’s degree in administration and supervision, with the goal of expanding my leadership in education.
