Biography
My name is Alyssa. As a non-native person, I identify my heritage as mostly Italian and German.
I have worked in urban education since 2012 when I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Youth Studies. I returned a few years later to pursue my masters in school counseling, which I completed in 2019.
I am in my second year as the middle school counselor for the Indian Education Department of Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) in Minnesota; a position which has only existed for these two years. My role takes me to 13 of our 16 middle schools to serve Native students by connecting to culture and building community within their schools. Joining ICSCI has provided me with the opportunity to create something specific to the needs of our students and community and grow my capacity and knowledge of how to best serve Native students and families in SPPS.
