Human subjects revisions
Effective July 19, 2018
Overview
Human Subjects Revisions Effective July 19, 2018 Overview The Human Subjects rules have a general compliance date of January 21, 2019. Certain components of the rule, however, may be implemented early on July 19, 2018. These three burden-reducing provisions are:
(1) ) The revised definition of “research,” which deems certain activities not to be research (see guidance ‘what is human research’);
(2) ) The allowance for no annual continuing review of certain categories of research (see guidance ‘renewal of human research’); and
(3) ) The elimination of the requirement that institutional review boards review grant applications or other funding proposals related to the research.
Northern Arizona University (NAU) has chosen to implement the three burden-reducing provisions noted above on July 19, 2018. All other parts of the human subject rules are required to be followed until January 21, 2019.
