Funding Opportunity-Forestry Technicians

PROJECT TO BE INITIATED IN 2018
Project Title: Forestry Technicians for Environmental and Natural Resources
Management Division, Fort Polk, Louisiana.
Responses to this Request for Statements of Interest will be used to identify potential investigators for a project to be funded by Fort Polk which provides professional and technical support for its Natural Resources Branch Program in order to facilitate successful implementation of the Endangered Species Act (16 USC 1531 et seq.), the Sikes Act Improvement Act (16 USC 670 et seq.), and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (16 USC 1361 et seq.) and Army Regulation 200-1. Approximately $370,000 is expected to be available to support this project. Additional funding may be available for follow on work in subsequent fiscal years to the successful Recipient/Awardee.
Background:
The Fort Polk environmental program ensures military mission activities are conducted in compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulations and policies. The program conducts natural resource and forestry management activities on JRTC and Fort Polk (to include forest fire management activities on United Stated Forest Service Lands utilized by Fort Polk under a special use permit agreement). The scope of this agreement includes supporting the program manager (PM) through various program management duties including, but not limited
to:
 Wildfire pre-suppression and suppression activities
 Forest Inventory and Timber Marking
 INRMP management activities implementation
Brief Description of Anticipated Work:
This research focuses on the following objectives:
Task 1: Forest Road and Firebreak Maintenance and Construction, and Site Rehabilitation: operation of heavy equipment with wheel-mounted or crawler type traction for maintaining and
constructing forest roads and firebreaks.
