PROJECT TO BE INITIATED IN 2018
Project Title: Fort Drum Archaeology Planning, Field Survey, and Site Evaluation
Responses to this Request for Statements of Interest will be used to identify potential
investigators for a project to be funded by Fort Drum which provides professional and
technical support for its Archaeology Program in order to facilitate successful implementation
of Cultural Resources Management on Fort Drum.
Approximately $320,000 is expected to be available to support this project.
Additional funding may be available for follow on work in subsequent fiscal years to the successful Recipient/Awardee.

Brief Description of Anticipated Work:
This research focuses on the following objectives:
1) Objective 1: Archaeological Field Survey; plan, supervise, and conduct systematic subsurface investigation in order to identify potential site locations. GPS all critical points and polygons for inclusion into Fort Drum’s IGI&S compliant GIS system.
2) Objective 2: Archaeological Site Evaluation; Analyze finds from survey, select locations of finds requiring further evaluation, complete test unit excavations following standard archaeological procedures.
3) Objective 3: Reporting Results of Archaeological Field Activities; Data will flow using Fort Drum standards and forms and will contribute to synthesis of all new information into draft reports detailing the results of the field investigations. The reports will provide sufficient data for evaluation of sites’ eligibility in terms of National Register of Historic Places criteria. Project participants may make recommendations for site management and stewardship.
4) Objective 4: Outreach; Develop and/or provide support for presentations and other forms of outreach related to archaeology and history as appropriate for military and public audiences.
5) Objective 5: Construction monitoring if needed.
6) Objective 6: Planning for future archaeological survey and evaluation priorities across the installation.
7) Objective 7: Laboratory and Curation; Recovery, processing, cataloging, analysis, and preparation of all recovered cultural materials for permanent curation using guidelines set forth in 36 CFR Parts 79 and 800.
8) Objective 8: Provide designs for and copy ready examples of pamphlets, videos, brochures and other outreach materials and displays to the Fort Drum Environmental Division and work to insure that the Environmental Division social media presence is current.
