Human subjects revisions
Effective July 19, 2018
Overview
Human Subjects Revisions Effective July 19, 2018 Overview The Human Subjects rules have a general compliance date of January 21, 2019. Certain components of the rule, however, may be implemented early on July 19, 2018. These three burden-reducing provisions are:
(1) The revised definition of “research,” which deems certain activities not to be research (see guidance ‘what is human research’);
(2) The allowance for no annual continuing review of certain categories of research (see guidance ‘renewal of human research’); and
(3) The elimination of the requirement that institutional review boards review grant applications or other funding proposals related to the research.
NAU has chosen to implement the three burden-reducing provisions noted above on July 19, 2018. All other parts of the human subject rules are required to be followed until January 21, 2019.
