Process for students
- Students should divide into groups of about four. Group assignments will vary by the expertise of each person in the group. Remember that a good leader makes sure that all persons are given opportunities to be heard. Respect is the rule of law in group work.
- Team roles should be chosen for each task, rotating responsibilities in the group.
- Team roles:
- Leader– Helps direct team towards meeting the task. Sees that every person speaks and is heard.
- Techie– Controls computer during session, accesses websites, prints.
- Materials Manager– Makes sure team members have notebooks, pencils and copies of student pages. Glue sticks and tape should be available for attaching student pages in notebook.
- Time Keeper– Keeps team on track to finish in the allotted class time. Reminds of time left.
- *All team members are responsible to record information in notebooks and have their own copy of the final project.
- Team roles:
- Groups may do tasks 1-5 in any order they wish. There is an additional Field Research task for classes with Pinyon Pine in their area. This can be used as field research in the local area. Data can be collected and put into notebooks to show local risks of climate change and scale damage to Pinyon Pines.
- Task 6, Predictions and Solutions and Task 7, Final Projects are segments of the evaluation for this webquest. Both must be started after Tasks 1-5 are completed. Notebooks should have the information needed to complete these tasks.
- Notebooking is encouraged and teachers may choose their own notebooking style.
