Summer Academy
2023 Summer Academy June 3 – July 1, 2023
NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
This summer Nizhoni Academy has offered Native American high students (current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors) the opportunity to learn in a diverse and vibrant virtual community. Nizhoni provides an academically challenging and engaging learning environment. We hope you are inspired by what you find out about the Nizhoni Academy, and that you will join us for this enrichment opportunity.
Academics
At Nizhoni Academy, you will explore climate change, sustainability, and how it directly effects Indigenous lands through a hands-on, writing intensive curriculum. Students can expect:
- Year 1 students will explore trends in climate change as effected by consumerism, agriculture and the “western” way of life, on a global scale.
- Year 2 students complete an in-depth project on a climate change issue that directly effects Indigenous lands and the students community. This project will change yearly.
- Year 3 students will complete a pre-college course created by professional staff designed to prepare and provide information for the college going experience.
- All students will participate in a Service Matters course, academic advising, financial literacy and receive tutoring.
Cost to Apply
$150.00 application fee. During this 2023 in-person summer program the application fee can be waived, if needed. Please contact our office for more information, nizhoni@nau.edu.
Upon acceptance, the cost to attend is at no additional expense to the student.
