LGBTQIA Commission

Welcome to the LGBTQIA Commission

Why Our Work is Important

Educational institutions are at their best when they have a community with a wide range of diverse experiences. Still, often even with good intentions, specific voices and bodies get either silenced or hidden. To me, the LGBTQIA Commission plays a central role in making sure the university hears the voices, experiences, and needs of the LGBTQIA community. – Sean Parson (Current Co-Chair)
The LGBTQIA Commission should be an important part of deepening NAU’s institutional understanding of why gender and orientation play important roles in the lives of students, faculty and staff. The Commissions goal is to advise and guide NAU leadership to institutionally supporting NAU’s LGBTTQIA+ community. We also endeavor to do what we can, with the resources we have, to make NAU a more welcoming and inclusive environment for folks in the LGBTTQIA+ Community  – Chelsea Green (Current Co-Chair)
I decided to serve on the commission because I want NAU to be a place where members of the LGBTQIA+ community are successful, respected, and seen.  – April Dawn Peters (Past Co-Chair)

Who We Are

The LGBTQIA Commission is organized to promote acceptance of LGBTQIA (Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender-Queer-Intersex-Asexual) diversity, and to foster respect and appreciation for each member of the NAU community, including Extended Campuses students, faculty and staff.

We are bound by the common interest of promoting mutual respect, fairness, equity, and a climate of inclusivity on campus. The Commission is open to all current university employees, students, and select Flagstaff community members who agree with these objectives. All are welcome and invited whether you are part of the LGBTQIA community or want to learn and support.
