Make a plan: be prepared ahead of a disaster
Your family or friends may not be in Flagstaff or on campus when a disaster strikes, so it is important to have a plan in place. Your plan should include:
- how you will get to a safe place
- how you will contact one another
- how you will get back together
- what you will do in different situations
The Department of Homeland Security’s Ready.gov has made it simple for you to make an emergency communications plan. Download the Communication Plan template and fill out the sections before printing it or emailing it to your family and friends.
You should also inquire about emergency plans at places where you routinely spend time, such as work, classrooms, faith organizations, or sports events. You will be better prepared to safely reunite with your family and loved ones during an emergency if you think ahead and communicate with others in advance. NAU also has emergency plans that you should be aware of.
