Throughout the 2026-2027 academic year, the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) will spotlight students to highlight the diverse academic paths and profile student motivations and interests. Through this series, CHHS aims to showcase the passion and dedication that inspire students to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities. The college’s next spotlight series is on Nathalia Granados, a member of the Class of 2026.
What is your hometown?
Yuma, AZ.

What are you studying?
Communication Sciences and Disorders, Disability Studies minor.
Why did you choose your major/program?
I chose CSD as my major because I saw how a speech-language pathologist (SLP) changed my brother’s communication in a drastic and positive way. My family deeply appreciates speech therapy and how much it helped my brother both in his speech and his behavior skills. It is my goal to help families communicate with their loved ones the same way my brother’s SLP was able to help mine.
What do you hope to do with your degree after graduation?
I hope to become a speech-language pathology assistant while also attending NAU’s summer track and obtain my masters degree in Clinical Speech-language pathology. My dream is to become a bilingual SLP and work in a hospital setting working with both children and adults.
What is one goal you hope to accomplish before you graduate (academic, personal, or professional)?
Before graduation, my goal is to become a state- and ASHA-certified SLPA.
