CHHS Student Spotlight Q + A: Cidney Roper

Throughout the 2026-2027 academic year, the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) will spotlight students to highlight the diverse academic paths and profile student motivations and interests. Through this series, CHHS aims to showcase the passion and dedication that inspire students to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities. The college’s next spotlight series is on Cidney Roper, a member of the Class of 2027.

What is your hometown?

Brawley, CA.

What are you studying?

I have a B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Public Relations. I am currently a second year graduate student studying Clinical Speech-Language Pathology.

Why did you choose your major/program?

I chose my program because from a young age I knew I wanted to be a Speech-Language Pathologist. I was born prematurely and received early intervention services from birth. This experience gave me perspective on the impact our field makes first-hand, solidifying my decision. I chose NAU intentionally because I knew I wanted to attend their graduate program after completing my undergraduate studies. Coming from Southern California, the mountains and seasonal weather in Flagstaff were the cherry on top!

What do you hope to do with your degree after graduation?

After graduation, I hope to become a medical based speech-language pathologist working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

What is one goal you hope to accomplish before you graduate (academic, personal, or professional)?

A goal I hope to accomplish before graduation is to hike the Grand Canyon!
