Arizona Teacher Residency

The focus of AZTR is to provide graduate education, hands-on classroom experience, and continuing professional development to aspiring teachers—along with multiple financial incentives to make achieving your goals more manageable.Aspiring teachers enter a two-year graduate program that includes a classroom apprenticeship under the guidance of a Supervising Teacher. Upon completion, residents earn their master’s degree and work as the teacher-of-record at a partnering district for at least two additional years. All without going into debt.

What Are The Benefits?

As an AZTR AmeriCorps member you will receive:

  • A master’s degree from NAU. You may be eligible to have your tuition covered by the Arizona Teachers Academy.
  • Extensive preparation under the guidance of an experienced teacher prior to becoming the teacher of record.
  • An opportunity to serve local communities.
  • Access to the AZTR Network, which includes Supervising Teachers, course instructors, your cohort, AZK12 staff, and district and school staff.
  • Professional support after becoming a teacher.
  • Support to pursue your National Board Certification.
  • A full-time job in a partner district starting in the second year of the program.

Where Can You Serve?

AZTR AmeriCorps members currently serve in the following counties:

  • Maricopa County

If you qualify for Arizona Teachers Academy funding, as most of our residents do, you can have tuition covered for your master’s degree.* Plus as a teacher resident, you’ll receive a cost-of-living stipend, healthcare while you apprentice in schools, and a full-time job upon completion of the program.
