The purpose of this project is to define and develop a pilot portfolio of transportation projects around a central theme that can be executed within the structure and processes of a transportation research center. Each of the research projects in the portfolio (7 total) is specifically identified and includes research partners from more than one of the state universities (NAU, ASU, and U of A). Each project addresses a state transportation need (as identified in cooperation with the Arizona Department of Transportation, ADOT) and includes a multi-disciplinary approach to the research that spans colleges and departments at the universities. Over the two-year duration of the project, the portfolio projects will be managed as they would in a University Transportation Center (UTC), including an initial kick-off meeting between the project champions (e.g., ADOT personnel) and the co-PI’s, bi-annual meetings to discuss the findings and relationships between the projects, and a final workshop or conference to present the findings to professionals in the transportation field, which includes personnel from government, industry and academia. All findings will be disseminated through publicly available research reports, scholarly publications, conference presentations, and meeting minutes.
