AZTrans Exhibit at the 2018 ACTI Arizona Innovation Day
AZTrans operated an exhibit at the 2018 Arizona Council for Transportation Innovation (ACTI) Arizona Innovation Day on September 25th, 2018. The mission of ACTI is to “facilitate the implementation of innovative technology, tactics and techniques among transportation program delivery professionals to ensure smart, efficient investment in Arizona’s highway and transportation infrastructure”. The AZTrans exhibit focused on current and recent student-involved transportation research conducted at NAU through the Pacific Southwest Region 9 University Transportation Center and AZTrans: The Arizona Laboratory for Applied Transportation Research. Topics included safety and operational impacts of distracted pedestrians at signalized intersections and highway-rail grade crossings, and analyses of freight safety on the Arizona I-10 corridor. The exhibit also included an example of a typical camera setup used for field data collection, and was staffed by NAU Civil Engineering faculty Edward Smaglik and graduate student Cris Aguilar.
